Georgia Professional Standards Commission Rule number 505-2-.20 SUBSTITUTE TEACHING governs the training requirements of Substitute Teachers.
As a minimum, each substitute teacher shall hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent and have participated in at least four (4) hours of initial substitute teacher training from an approved agency (i.e. RESA, GA Public School System).
Substitute teacher trainings for the Butts County School System are offered by Griffin RESA. Cost includes 3 hour training, materials and Certificate of Completion. To register for sessions, contact Griffin RESA by phone at (770) 229-3247, or via email at subtraining@griffinresa.net. Upon completion of approved substitute training, each candidate will receive a certificate. A certificate of completion is required in order TO BE CONSIDERED as a candidate for substitute teacher opportunities with Butts County Schools.
Those individuals who possess a valid or expired Georgia professional teaching certificate or Paraprofessional certificate are exempt from the training requirement.
