Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Melinda Chambers as the Butts County School System 2024-25 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Melinda Chambers teaches fourth grade math, science, and social studies at Hampton L. Daughtry Elementary School. Mrs.Chambers holds three degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Mercer University (2002), a Masters of Reading Education from Mercer University (2005); and a Specialist in Instructional Leadership from Nova Southeastern University (2008). Mrs. Chambers also earned her gifted endorsement.

Mrs. Chambers has been an educator for over twenty-three years and has devoted nineteen years of her service to the students of Butts County at Daughtry Elementary. “Over the past four years I have been blessed to work alongside her,” says Daughtry Elementary School principal, Mrs. Flanders. “I have watched as Mrs. Chambers has inspired the other educators around her with a quiet wisdom and creative instruction that consistently helps students advance to mastery level.”

Mrs. Chambers is creatively develops lessons that will engage students in fun and real world applicable learning experiences. For example, Mrs. Chambers’ students have visited the solar system and the candy store to study math number and operations, and have used geometry to plan and “sell” a house. These types of real life, fun, and engaging scenarios are not just a once in a while occurrence, but a regular part of the instructional plan for each unit.  Since working near and collaborating with Mrs. Chambers, other teachers have also begun to implement these exciting “missions” (as Mrs Chambers calls them) regularly.

Mrs. Chambers is a dedicated teacher and leader in many aspects of education. She has trained student teachers, mentored new educators, designed and presented numerous professional learning sessions. She shows her commitment to building the confidence and leadership skills of students while serving as the advisor of the Daughtry Elementary Student Council for six years. She has also co-chaired the math committee, led the Sunshine Committee, and headed the Challenge 24 club. Additionally, Mrs. Chambers participated in the Aspiring Leaders program for Butts County and the Governor’s School Leadership Academy Teacher Leader Support Program.
