Updated Quarantine Guidance

BCSS Families and Stakeholders
I am writing to make you aware of revised quarantine protocols for individuals exposed to those testing positive to COVID-19. As stated previously, we will continue to adjust as circumstances around the ongoing pandemic dictate. Based on the concerns associated with elevated transmission levels, it has become necessary to revise the protocols for quarantines- effective Friday, August 20, 2021
A direct exposure is defined as being within 3 feet for at least 15 minutes of someone confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19. Based on an increase in COVID-19 cases throughout our district and community, we are requiring all students who are deemed a direct contact of a positive individual to quarantine. Parents of individuals who have been directly exposed in the school setting will be notified by school personnel.
Going forward, any student who is a direct contact of an individual testing positive for COVID-19 will be required to quarantine for a maximum of 14 days. Students in quarantine may return sooner if given a test on day 6 and the results are negative, then they may return on day 8. Additionally, students may return after day 10 if they have not exhibited any symptoms associated with COVID-19.
We certainly want to minimize the number of days students and staff are separated from school. However, we also must also do all that we can to maintain a safe and successful learning environment during this time period.
It will be necessary for us to continue working together to be responsive to any needs that may arise so that we can keep our children in school. I want to reassure everyone that we are constantly monitoring developments very closely and will continue to collaborate with state and local officials to ensure the safety of our children and staff.
Please continue to inform your child’s school of any exposures outside of school as well as a positive test result for your student. Finally, please be sure to keep students home and seek medical care if they are exhibiting symptoms associated COVID-19. Be sure to check our website www.bcssk12.org for the most up-to-date information and resources.
Thank you for your continued support of BCSS and all you do to make BCSS a great place to be!
Sincerely,
Dr. Todd Simpson
