Mrs. Lisa Smith
Hey there! My name is Lisa Smith. I am the Art teacher at Daughtry Elementary! I have been a resident of Butts County for 32 years. I live in southern Butts County with my husband Joey, my son Will, and our furry companion, Reese. My children attended Butts County Schools from Kindergarten through high school and are now JHS alumni. My daughter is married and expecting her first child (my FIRST grandchild) in January! It's a BOY! We are so excited! My son will be a sophomore at Gordon State College. He's still trying to decide what he wants to do after college. My husband Joey has three grown sons with beautiful families as well, including 4 precious grandchildren!
The school year 2020-2021 will be my 11th year teaching. (Ten of those years have been right here at DES!) My bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education/SPED is from Gordon State College. I have an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Brenau University, as well as an Ed.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Georgia.
I attend Abundant Life Church in Locust Grove where I have been a member since 1988. Joey and I facilitate a DivorceCare class on Thursday evenings.
I believe community involvement is important. I taught art and drama summer camps through the Butts County Department of Leisure Services for three years. I directed "Cinderella" for the Butts County Community Theatre in 2015. I am the secretary of the Friends Group of Indian Springs State Park. I have also served on the judges' panels of several art and talent shows and speech/debate tournaments.
During quarantine, I co-authored my first children's book, KK's Busy Day. It is about a day in the life of a little girl with Pitt Hopkins Syndrome. I am currently working on my first solo project that is almost complete. It should be ready for publication soon.
My husband and I love to hike! We are trying to hike all of the state parks in our beautiful state as we love the outdoors and spending time together. My other hobbies include painting, drawing, writing, photography, singing, and gardening, just to name a few!
I am so excited for this upcoming school year! With all of the uncertainties that the new school year brings, I am confident that it will be a year of creativity like no other. One where students are safe in a learning environment that fosters the well-being of children while affording them the opportunities to let their imaginations soar and their creative minds blossom! It's going to be a great year!
