Mrs. Lisa T Smith

Hey there! My name is Lisa Smith. I am the Art teacher at Daughtry Elementary! I have been a resident of Butts County for 33 years.  I live in southern Butts County with my husband Joey, my son Will, and our furry companion, Reese.  My children attended Butts County Schools from Kindergarten through high school and are now JHS alumni.  My daughter, Amelia, her husband Justin and my grandson, Jett live in Jesup, GA.  My son is finishing up his second year at Gordon State College.  My husband Joey has three grown sons with beautiful families as well, including 5 precious grandchildren!

The school year 2021-2022 will be my 12th year teaching.  (Eleven of those years have been right here at DES!)  My bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education/SPED is from Gordon State College. I have an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Brenau University, as well as an Ed.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Georgia.

I attend Abundant Life Church in Locust Grove where I have been a member since 1988.

I believe community involvement is important.  I taught art and drama summer camps through the Butts County Department of Leisure Services for three years.  I directed "Cinderella" for the Butts County Community Theatre in 2015.  I am the secretary of the Friends Group of Indian Springs State Park. I have also served on the judges' panels of several art and talent shows and speech/debate tournaments.

During the 2020 quarantine, I co-authored my first children's book, KK's Busy Day.  It is about a day in the life of a little girl with Pitt Hopkins Syndrome.  My first solo project, Granny Beads, is now available online at Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.

My husband and I love to hike!  We are trying to hike all of the state parks in our beautiful state as we love the outdoors and spending time together. My other hobbies include painting, drawing, writing, photography, singing, and gardening, just to name a few!

I am so excited for this upcoming school year! I am confident that it will be a year of creativity like no other.  One where students are safe in a learning environment that fosters the well-being of children while affording them the opportunities to let their imaginations soar and their creative minds blossom!  It's going to be a great year!
