Mrs. Lisa T Smith

Hey there! My name is Lisa Smith. I am the Art teacher at Daughtry Elementary! I have been a resident of Butts County for 35 years.  I live in southern Butts County with my husband, Joey and our furry companion, Reese.  My daughter and son attended Butts County Schools from Kindergarten through high school and are now JHS alumni. My husband Joey has three grown sons with beautiful families as well. Together we have 6 precious grandchildren!  We are truly blessed!

The school year 2024-2025 will be my 15th year teaching.  (Fourteen of those years have been right here at DES!)  I earned my Associates of Arts degree from Gordon State College.  I received my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education/SPED from Gordon State College as well. I have an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Brenau University, and an Ed.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Georgia.

I attend Rock Springs Church in Milner, GA.  Praise and worship are dear to my heart!

I believe community involvement is important.  I taught art and drama summer camps through the Butts County Department of Leisure Services for three years.  I directed "Cinderella" for the Butts County Community Theatre in 2017.  I am the secretary of the Friends Group of Indian Springs State Park. I have also served on the judges' panels of several art and talent shows and speech/debate tournaments in Butts and Jasper counties.

During the 2020 quarantine, I co-authored my first children's book, KK's Busy Day.  It is about a day in the life of a little girl with Pitt Hopkins Syndrome.  My first solo project, Granny Beads, is now available online at Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.

My husband and I love to hike!  We are trying to hike all the state parks in our beautiful state as we love the outdoors and spending time together. My other hobbies include painting, drawing, writing, photography, singing, and gardening, just to name a few!

I am so excited for this upcoming school year! I am confident that it will be a year of creativity like no other.  One where students are safe in a learning environment that fosters the well-being of children while affording them the opportunities to let their imaginations soar and their creative minds blossom!  It's going to be a great year!
